The Sussex portfolio consists of a series of single family townhomes which are on some of the smallest parcels in the City of Boston.

The extent and timing of the renovations vary depending on each building. Every townhome has been thoughtfully redeveloped optimizing the use of these uniquely small homes.  Perpetual performed a complete interior and exterior rehabilitation of each property.  The exterior work included the reconstruction of the deteriorating masonry walls, the replacement of the roof, the rebuilding of the rear bay windows as well was upgrading the mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.

Before & After

The Construction Process

The Sussex Street portfolio project was a blend of thoughtful renovation and ground-up construction across four neighboring properties. At 22, 26, and 34 Sussex St., Perpetual focused on modernizing existing structures with comprehensive interior upgrades, improved building systems, and refreshed finishes while preserving the character of the original homes.

20 Sussex St. represents the most extensive project within the portfolio, involving a full addition and new construction. This building was engineered with a specialized foundation system and contemporary framing methods to support open interior layouts and enhanced structural performance.

Design & Development Plan

Perpetual approached the Sussex Street portfolio with a focus on scale and detail. Renovations at 22, 26, and 34 Sussex were guided by the existing structures, preserving key architectural elements while updating systems and finishes. At 20 Sussex, the new construction and addition were carefully scaled and articulated to align with the streetscape, with façade rhythm, window alignment, and masonry details responding to the surrounding neighborhood.

The Finished Product

Across the Sussex Street portfolio, Perpetual focused on creating homes that feel modern, well-built, and aligned with the character of the surrounding neighborhood. Through thoughtful renovations and new construction, each property was refined in scale, layout, and detail to meet community expectations and long-term durability standards.
